The January 7th, 2025, Pocahontas County Board of Education meeting has been canceled due to inclement weather. It has been rescheduled for Tuesday, January 14th. It will start at 6 pm at the Board of Education Office at 404 Old Buckeye Road, Buckeye, WV.

Due to inclement weather conditions, all Pocahontas County Schools will be closed on Tuesday, January 7. Students will complete Snow Packet #2.
Stay warm and safe.

Please be careful in the storm. This day does count as a day not in school even though it is a State of Emergency. The State of Emergency will free up funding for our state during the storm.
Students will need to work on their first day of snow packets.
Stay safe and warm!

📢Parents and Students❄️:
Beginning our next snow day/school cancellation, students will need to start completing their snow packets. ❄️ Snow packets ensure that students can continue meaningful learning on snow days or emergency closures while preserving our summer break.
We are permitted to use 5 non-traditional learning days (snow packet days) before we have to make up days at the end of the school year. ❄️📚
🗣️📞To provide additional support during snow packet days, each school will now hold “office hours” via Teams/email. Students and parents can reach out with questions during that time and a staff member will respond. These hours are posted to each school’s websites and on the district site here: https://boe.pocahontas.k12.wv.us/page/snow-packet-info.
If you have questions about snow packets, please contact your child's school for more information or use the office hours to reach out to your child's teacher on snow days. ☃️

Quick update on Pre-K registration: Application packets will be available the next day school is in session. Stay safe and warm! ❄️☃️

❄️Update for Parents and Students ❄️
Our district has one snow day left before snow packets start. Snow packets ensure that students can continue meaningful learning on snow days or emergency closures while preserving our summer break. We are permitted to use 5 non-traditional learning days (snow packet days) before we have to make up days at the end of the school year. ❄️📚
If you have questions about snow packets, please contact your child's school for more information.
Let's keep learning, no matter the weather! 🌟

Due to current and forecasted weather, all Pocahontas County Schools will operate on a 3-hour delay on Thursday, January 2, 2025. We feel it is important for our drivers to start their routes in daylight when the weather conditions are questionable.

🤲December is Handwashing Awareness Month! 🚿
Washing your hands is easy, and it’s one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of germs. Follow these five steps every time.
1. Wet your hands with clean, running water (warm or cold), turn off the tap, and apply soap.
2. Lather your hands by rubbing them together with the soap. Lather the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails.
3. Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds. Need a timer? Hum the “Happy Birthday” song from beginning to end twice.
4. Rinse your hands well under clean, running water.
5. Dry your hands using a clean towel or an air dryer.
Washing hands with soap and water is the best way to get rid of germs in most situations. If soap and water are not readily available, you can use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.

🎅🤶We look forward to seeing you all! 🎄⛄
