Buckeye, WV – Pocahontas County Schools has been awarded $918,086 through the West Virginia School Building Authority’s (SBA) Fiscal Year 2027 Major Improvement Project (MIP) funding cycle to support the replacement of the roof at Marlinton Middle School.
The project was included on the SBA’s recently approved funding list and will address a critical facility need while helping protect the long-term integrity of the school building. The total project cost is estimated at $1,268,086, with $350,000 in local funds committed by Pocahontas County Schools.
“This is tremendous news for our students, staff, and community,” said Dr. Leatha Williams, Superintendent of Pocahontas County Schools. “We are grateful to the West Virginia School Building Authority for investing in our schools and recognizing the importance of maintaining safe, high-quality learning environments. This funding will allow us to complete a much-needed project while being good stewards of our local resources.”
The SBA’s Major Improvement Project program provides funding for large-scale facility upgrades and renovations that help county school systems address critical infrastructure needs beyond the scope of routine maintenance budgets.
According to Duane Gibson, Maintenance Director for Pocahontas County Schools, the project will provide long-term benefits for the school system.
“Replacing the roof at Marlinton Middle School is an important investment in the future of the facility,” Gibson said. “We appreciate the SBA’s partnership and support in making this project possible.”
The award reflects the collaborative efforts of county and state leaders to ensure that students and staff have safe, secure, and well-maintained educational facilities. Planning and implementation of the project will proceed in accordance with SBA guidelines and timelines.
