Buckeye, WV — Pocahontas County Schools is proud to announce its 2026/27 Teacher of the Year and Service Personnel of the Year, recognizing two outstanding individuals who exemplify excellence, dedication, and service to students, staff, and the school community.
Samantha Feather, of Marlinton Elementary School, has been named Teacher of the Year. A beloved educator known for her strong relationships with students, Feather consistently goes above and beyond to support learning and foster a positive school culture. Her commitment to professional growth is demonstrated by earning her National Board Certification, a distinction held by some of the most accomplished educators in the nation. Her recognition also marks a special achievement for Marlinton Elementary School, which celebrates back‑to‑back county Teacher of the Year wins.

Heather Simmons, of Hillsboro Elementary School, has been selected as Service Personnel of the Year. Simmons splits her time between Hillsboro Elementary School and the district’s Central Office, where she consistently gives 100 percent to both roles. Known for her reliability, professionalism, and willingness to step in wherever she is needed, Simmons has earned the respect and appreciation of staff across the district. She is a back‑to‑back Service Personnel of the Year winner at Hillsboro Elementary School and now proudly represents the district at the county level.
Both honorees will serve as Pocahontas County Schools’ Teacher of the Year and Service Personnel of the Year for the 2026/27 school year, representing the district with pride and distinction.
