School Calendar Highlights
2023-2024
The following details summarize the components of the proposed 2022-2023 calendar. Please refer to the attached calendar draft.
- The first day for employees would be August 10 as a Teacher Preparation/Faculty Senate Day.
- Employees will have 2 days of Continuing Education Days (August 11 & 14) tentatively scheduled for PCHS.
- Employees will have school-based continuing education (Professional Learning Day) at their home schools on August 15 and may use part of that day for preparing for the first day of school.
- The first day of classes is Wednesday, August 16. Students may seek educational leave for state fair participation.
- The second Faculty Senate Day will be on October 18. This will be a three hour early dismissal.
- Friday, November 10 is Veterans Day holiday.
- Thanksgiving Break will be November 20-24 with no school for students or employees.
- The first semester would end on Wednesday, December 20 as a Faculty Senate/Professional Learning Day and students would not be in attendance. Employees will have the option of working off that day as we have in the past. (Open House, after school activities, family engagement activities, etc.) Faculty Senate is scheduled for that day and may be held outside of regular school hours during the month of December but prior to December 20. Professional employees will be required to document 6 hours in addition to the two faculty senate meeting hours and service employees must document 8 hours for trade-off time.
- Christmas Break for students will begin on Wednesday, December 20 and students will return on Wednesday, January 3.
- Employees report back to work on Tuesday, January 2 is a Professional Meeting Day with no students in attendance. Teachers can use this day to prepare for the second semester instruction.
- Martin Luther King Holiday will be observed on Monday, January 15.
- February 26 will be a Professional Learning Day/Faculty Senate Day with no students in attendance.
- March 29 will be a Professional Learning Day with no students in attendance. It is also Good Friday and employees may work off that day prior to Good Friday in the same fashion as December 20.
- Spring break will be April 1-5 with no school for students or employees unless school needs to be made up due to either a work stoppage or unforeseen catastrophic occurrence that cannot be predicted. It will be our intent to protect as many of those spring break days as possible.
- April 26 is a Professional Learning Day/Faculty Senate Day with no students in attendance.
- Graduation is scheduled for Sunday, May 26, 2024. (The law requires that we cannot schedule graduation more than 5 days prior to the end of school.)
- The last scheduled day for students would be May 23, 2024.
- May 24 is a Continuing Education Day for employees.
- Memorial Day holiday is Monday, May 27, 2024.
- The last scheduled day for employees would be June 7 although with Our of School Environment Days their last day at work could be May 28 unless unforeseen circumstances would occur. May 28 could then become the Closing of Schools Day (P).
Note: The six OS days (May 28-June 4) typically have been used to make up snow days. If we do not have to use those days to make up school, the calendar would move 6 days forward creating a situation in which the last day for 200 day employees could be May 28.
